of the
Memorial is

Start Over

The excitement could be felt around Columbus.
The work on the Higgins Memorial has begun.
  • Photo 1 & 2:  May 15, 2001 - The site is surveyed by Gilmore & Associates.
  • Photo 3:  Survey complete.
  • Photo 4:  May 16, 2001 - The grading begins.
  • Photo 5: The City of Columbus helps with the clean up.
  • Photo 6:  The site is ready.
  • Photo 7 & 8:  Picture 7 and 8 are digging the trench for the footings. 
  • Photo 9:  Material provided by Gehring Ready Mix and Concrete. The footings, block and stone work by Tucker Masonry.
  • Photo 10 & 11:  Pouring footings for the wall.
  • Photo 12:  All the footings work was done on May 21, 2001. Late afternoon on May 22nd Tucker Masonry started to lay the block.
  • Photo 13:  May 22nd - The brick has arrived for the construction of the Higgins Memorial.  The stone comes from a quarry near Milwaukee. Wisconsin.
  • Photo 14 & 15:  Unloading begins.  Bob Aerni running the backhoe.
  • Photo 16 & 17:  May 22, 2001 - Late in the afternoon Tucker Masonry began building the wall
  • Photo 18:  May 23, 2001 - What a start!  The spectators of Columbus and surrounding areas drive by regularly to check on the progress of the Higgins Memorial.
